The punk/new wave explosion of the late ’70s brought about an exploration into new territory, including electronic music. Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, as Orchestral Manoeuvres in The Dark, took synthesizer music to soaring, baroque pop heights. If the grandeur of the rising synths in “Maid of Orleans” doesn’t rouse you then I feel sorry for you.
