“Separate Lives” by Paragon Cause

Ottawa/Gatineau duo Paragon Cause (Jay and Michelle) provide a slinky vibe that’s immediately compelling. What’s hidden in the velvet glove (hard-edged distortion and angst) keeps you transfixed.

“L’Anonyme” by Claude l’Anthrope

l’Anthrope has been teasing us for months with tracks from the new album, which is now finally here. Still as experimental as ever, they lean more on beat music on this release, and the results are wonderful. “L’Anonyme” has a great groove, but it is dark and meditative, culminating in the lines:

“Elle préfère être libre
L’anonyme
L’anonyme
L’anonyme”

(She prefers to be free. The anonymous, the anonymous, the anonymous)
